I was counting down the months until the end of my deployment. My days were spent working on military vehicles, and I spent my nights playing video games that would distract me until I could leave Staff Sergeant Garrett Reid behind.

That was when I met him: Kai Bannon, a fellow gamer with a famous stream channel.

I never expected to become fixated on someone who’d initially been a rival. And I’d never expected someone who oozed charm to notice me—a guy known for his brutal honesty and scowl. I hadn’t planned for our online friendship to turn into something that kept me up at night—hours of chatting evolving into filthy webcam sessions.

But it did. And now I can’t stop thinking about him. In my mind, our real life meeting is perfect. We kiss, we fall into bed, and it’s love at first sight.

Except, like most things in my life, it doesn’t go as planned.

My Review:

This is the first book in the Cyberlove Series from Megan Erickson & Santino Hassell. This was the first book I had read from either author and I really enjoyed it, I have since gone on to finish the first three book in this series and read some of Erickson’s other work. This book does change POV between the two main characters, Garrett and Kai. The authors do this very well, clearly showing when the POV changed and who it is.

Garrett and Kai meet and develop their relationship online, until Garrett is discharged from the army and goes back to the US. Their relationship gets more complicated when Garrett comes back to the US and meets Kai in person. Garrett is trying to adjust to being home and trying to find work and Kai is attempting to deal with his social anxiety and this new relationship with Garrett. Erickson & Hassell write Garrett and Kai well, both characters having their own issues and that, by the end of the book, they clearly accept and deal with appropriately. I really enjoyed Garrett’s and Kai’s character progression, both individually and as a couple.

One thing I really liked about this book is Garrett when he gets home. Erickson & Hassell depict the struggle of adjusting to Cillian life quite well, Garrett struggles with finding work and adjusting to all the people he has to be in contact with now that he is home.

I also really enjoyed that the authors could show both sides of online encounters, that sometimes the people online can be great people and you can develop strong relationships and show that it can be dangerous and to always be safe.

Erickson & Hassell balanced romance, comedy and some serious struggles for both Garrett and Kai. Overall, I thought this was a well written book and I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys a good romance.
